Palmex is officially open for business in Colombia!

We are now officially open for business in Colombia with an office in beautiful Medellin (more to follow).
We are installing our first demo roof in front of Maderinco, a treated wood supplier. This demo roof can be seen at the beginning of the road that leads to Cali via Caldas.

You can contact us in Medellin by calling 266.31.51 or emailing Juan Fernando at fernando @ grupopalmadera.com

Trip to the Maldives

We were recently asked to go to the Kuramathi Resort in the Maldive Islands in the Indian Ocean. What a wonderful place that is, a true paradise. We were sent there by Palmex International to show the hotel staff how to install Palmex on their reception building roof. They were so happy they have already ordered another container of Palmex for their main restaurant.
It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it!

Lots of activity

If you went by our warehouse in Chame, you may have noticed a lot of activity! We are joining forces with a Colombian-owned wood company called Maderinsa. I’ve been buying wood from them for several years and they really like the Palmex product and are environmentally conscious, so this wil be a great union. Together we will be able to better serve our customers.
We will be selling Palmex, treated wood and everything from dog houses to large homes made of high-quality durable wood. We will operate in both Panama and Colombia.
From now on our Chame office will be opened 7 …

Palmex now available in Bocas del Toro!

We are pleased to announce that through an association with Woodstock Lumber Yard, Palmex is now available locally in Bocas del Toro. Wade Roberts of Woodstock will act as sales agent and installer for the Province of Bocas. You can see the product displayed in front of his shop, as well as at the new info booth on the waterfront, right next to Starfleet.
The installation of the roof on the info booth is a bit of an historic moment, as it marks the arrival of the first thatch roof in Bocas Town since natural thatch was banned following the great fire of …

Westin Playa Bonita: Our Largest Project Ever

We are pleased to announce that we have begun our largest project to date in Panama. We are covering the three large octagonal structures that will make up the beach/pool restaurant and VIP room at the new Westin Hotel Playa Bonita that Empresas Bern is building. This gigantic restaurant alone encompasses close to 2000 m2 of roof.
We are proud that Empresas Bern, the premier real-estate developer and hotel operator in Panama has selected Palmex for its flagship project. This demonstrate the quality, durability and reliability of our Palmex products. By selecting our product Empresas Bern will save about 2500 palm trees the first time …

Palmex as an Eco-Solution

We’ve already written a document that talks about why we believe that Palmex is a sound environmental solution (you can read it here), but this post provides some more evidence.
We’re currently replacing the thatch roof on a house in Punta Barco. The owner tells me that the house is 35 years old, that they had to replace the thatch 5 times during that period, and that they had to also replace the wood structure back in 1995. This house measures 7.5m by 13m.
We calculated that over 2100 palm tree fronds were used to cover that house. You can see all …

Palmex Panama Featured in “Passport to Design”

Palmex Panama was featured in an article on the popular Passport to Design blog. You can read this nice article on changing the roof of a modern tropical house right here.
I’m very pleased with how natural the Palmex looks…the only indication that it’s synthetic is that it really doesn’t blow in the wind like the “real stuff” does. But at least it looks great and will last a lifetime! — Tania

Panama Green Building Council

We are pleased to announce that Palmex Panama is now a member of the newly formed Panama Green Building Council (PGBC).
We firmly believe in sustainable development and environmental responsibility and we think that our Palmex products are much more environmentally friendly than natural palm leaves, as you can read in our document entitled “Environmental Responsibility“.
Through the PGBC, we hope to help foster better awareness of the importance of respecting the environment, especially in Panama where much of the Nation’s future hangs on protecting it’s natural beauty.
Feel free to contact us for further details on the environmental aspects of our products, …
